Creating a Custom Resolution

Did you know that you can customize your resolution? It is handy if your resolution is not displayed straight away after plugging the monitor in.

Because I can’t use ATI/AMD drivers this applies to NVIDIA users only.

How VSync works

What is VSync? VSync stands for Vertical Synchronization. The basic idea is that synchronizes your FPS with your monitor's refresh rate. The purpose is to eliminate something called "tearing". I will describe all these things here.

Every CRT monitor has a refresh rate. It's specified in Hz (Hertz, cycles per second). It is the number of times the monitor updates the display per second. Different monitors support different refresh rates at different resolutions. They range from 60Hz at the low end up to 100Hz and higher.

Preview: Dead Island

Wow this would be my first actual post in almost a week, please forgive me.

When you think of games involving Zombies the tell tale sign is the word "dead" in the name of the game. For example Left 4 Dead, Dead Space and Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare.

Crysis 2, yes Crysis 2 is here!

Ok well it's been around for quite (think: month or more) some time now and I have started playing it. Crysis 2 was developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts and is the second main instalment of the Crysis series. The player assumes the role of a Force Recon Marine called Alcatraz, Crysis 2 moves away from the jungle environment and moves towards the "urban jungle" of New York, this kind of atmosphere forces the player to rethink their tactics when playing though Crysis 2.

Colin McRae: Dirt 2

So recently I, posted a post about Dirt 3, but have we all forgotten Dirt 2?
Colin McRae: Dirt 2 is a racing game released in September 2009, and is the sequel to Colin McRae: Dirt. Dirt 2 was the first game in the Colin McRae series to be released after Colin McRae's untimely death. Dirt 2 features a number of prominent racers such as Ken Block, Travis Pastrana, Tanner Foust, and Dave Mirra as well as featuring former rally driver Mohammed ben Sulayem.

Do you have what it takes to run Dirt 3?

Dirt 3 is an upcoming release from Codemasters, it is a rally game in which the player participates at various rally and non rally events. Dirt 3's predecessor, Dirt 2, still gives even today's mid-range graphics cards a run for their money. So I pose this question are you ready for Dirt 3?

Thought I would add some hype, Look at the background!

Bulletstorm: Kill with Skill

A release from earlier this year which I particularly liked was BulletStorm. BulletStorm stands out because of its style and crass humour. rewarding the player with points for performing increasingly ludicrous kills. BulletStorm takes place in the 26th century where the Confederation of Planets are protected be an elite yet secret black ops army called Dead Echo. The plot is based around the the two members of Dead Echo, Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato who crash land on a deserted vacation planet, which has now been overrun by cannibalistic tribes, meat-eating plants, and large (think Godzilla) monsters. They then have to get off the planet, while encountering some issues along the way.

Drifting away from what I usually post...

For those of us who spend a fortune on membership of Gym Clubs, I have some good news, you do not need a gym to keep yourself in good condition. There are so many simple activities exercises that you can do in the privacy of your own homes, your bedroom can become your own personal gym.

ATTENTION

As you may have noticed the URL has changed to http://edgecon21.blogspot.com from http://taccess21.blogspot.com I have decided to move away from the TAccess name, this also allows me to use a top level domain of my choice!
I'd like to apologize for the inconvenience caused.

50 Followers and climbing,

So looks like with spare  time you can really get into this blogging thing, makes me feel like I am not talking to myself. Anyway I'd just like to thank you for following this blog. The rest of this post is just for some humour.

Today, I think I'll mention STEAM

Steam was launched by Valve in 2003 and was considered a no go by gamers, because it required one to be connected to the internet. However Valve still managed to  get over 200,000 gamers to use Steam with Counter Strike 1.6. Further down the line, round about 2005 third party games appeared on Steam and Valve started making a profit, but during this period Steam still had a minimal market share.

It's finally over and Need for Speed World

In a matter that does not concern me, Osama bin Laden is finally dead, or is he?

So I have been  playing NFS World once in a while and I think the fact that it is free is really nice. But what about the actual game play you may ask?

Mythbusters Round Up.

So recently season 9 of Mythbusters was aired over in the US and various other places.

Here are the outcomes of the last few episodes, in season 8.

Age of Empires Online, Yay or Nay

The Age of Empires series is a history based real-time strategy game. The player is able to complete the campaign or compete against the games AI which can be set to various difficulties, however in Age of Empires online, there is a plot twist, the campaign consists of various quests.  Which can be completed in Coop mode or single player and if you feel the urge to play against another player it is possible to PvP.

Reporting a Hacker (or Hackers) in Call of Duty Black Ops

Oh those hackers. They tend to be quite annoying as they cannot make a full sentence or even spell properly, in fact they they think anyone can decipher abbreviations like fag, man, mag (I could not think of any more because this is not what I am writing about) and so fourth. In short, the are the final straw that make sad pandas cry.

Take a stand against those with absolutely no life and report them. Here is HOW!

Not to long ago...

Not to long ago I bought a game called Call of Duty Black Ops, yes that one which is the 7th release in the Call of Duty series.
Game Cover, taken from my phone 2 MP Camera :(

It cost me Four Hundred and Ninety-nine Rand (the money we use in South Africa). This was on the day after it was released. By then it was not even a smooth experience, after installing it I had to patch the game and after that the experience wasn't even smooth, this may be accredited to the fact that I was running a 9600 GSO, which was far below standard.

However when Treyarch got their act together I was quite surprised at the end result.

How to turn of Skype Notifications in Windows!

So you are playing a game like DotA while simultaneously being logged on to Skype, with your spells in the corner, then ZOMG A Skype notification appears and you can't click your spell, but you try anyway and when you do it minimizes the game and you end up dying and then your team-mates rage at you.

Believe it or not most people don't know how to turn this off, I will now reveal how to deactivate the Skype message notification!

Hotmail vs Gmail

Possibly the most difficult question, in the world, that is if you use e-mail on a regular basis.

Now if you asked me on any given day which one to use, I would say Gmail (www.gmail.com), as far as I would know Gmail beat Hotmail hands down.
But now Microsoft has slowly implemented changes to the Hotmail UI and introduced new features.

To go Wireless or Not?

So at home I am connected via a LAN cable to the router, which is quite far from my room I am looking at some wireless options such as a USB Dongle for my PC, I don't copy any large files over the LAN, so the speed difference won't be an issue.

I am presented with the following two options:

Just FYI, our ADSL Router is a Netgear DG834GUv5, which only supports wireless in b and g modes, so the n mode would basically be future proofing.

Which would be the best option.

    A Dell Ploy, Beware

Earlier on I was browsing the DELL website looking at Laptops with Second Generation Intel Processors.
    When I came across this:
In what Universe is 256 GB more than 750 GB!?

However it is a solid state drive which means the performance is increased. Not the Storage SPACE, beware people!

    How EPIC

How EPIC is it that I can post directly from my PC using my e-mail client,

Although I should note the reduced functionality,
This also serves as a test to see if it works.

    Over and out Xzib1t
EDIT: and guess what it did work!
As you can see the message I sent travelled 1 minute back in time :P

    Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Review

Hello, so I thought for my first post on my new blog I would review Battlefield Bad Company 2.
Bad Company 2 was developed by a Swedish based video game developer Dice (Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment), so far they have developed over 11 Battlefield Series games, Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Battlefield Heroes to name a few.
